    Description

As "cloud" based repositories are becoming new hunting grounds for hackers, has any consideration been given to development of an "off-Moodle" repository system that can be set up within the host server? A repository is essentially an FTP based library cataloguing system, and small institutions may be more willing to set up their own repository service than acquire space externally. There are many institutes/schools/organisations that have blocked access to external repositories, for one reason or another, but still have a need for a repository.
Is it possible to develop a plugin that will connect to a repository on the same server as the Moodle? E.g. a Fedora repository.
If such a plugin could be developed, could it be made backward compatible from the current release?
Another such use could be what is described in this Forum discussion, https://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=271402#p1170306
An alternative could be to make an easily configurable Moodle plugin for Microsoft's SharePoint.
