Some user preferences are not updated in $USER object

      1. Create a new course with a few forum posts
      2. As another user log in and access that course
      3. Confirm that the forums do not report any unread posts
      4. Go to your preferences and update your forum tracking preferences to 'Yes, track ...'
      5. Back to the course, confirm that you are now notified of Unread posts
      6. Back to the preferences, change your language
      7. Confirm it was changed as soon as you save the preference

    Description

      If I log into a course with a forum with posts, then change my preferences to track forum posts, then go back to the course, the forum doesn't show any unread posts. In 2.8 this did show all posts in the forum as unread.
