In Natural Aggregation, students are seeing a different course grade than the teacher sees. Students are seeing a grade that includes some empty grades (so they all think they are failing!), even though the teacher has empty grades set to be excluded. Teachers see the correct grade in User Report and in Grader Report.
The issue is connected to having a quiz in the course set up with a closing time. When a quiz is open, the rest of the empty grades start getting calculated into the student's view of the grade. It fixes itself when the quiz is closed.
Screen shot of example:
Teacher view of user report (one category and course total): http://screencast.com/t/7T0iJk1ZPxv9
Student's view: http://screencast.com/t/ZykT6bW4C
Even though in both the teacher and student views the student achieve a 100% in class participation, in the student view, it is contributing 26.26% to the course total (versus 5% in the teacher's view) which was our first clue that for students, it's including the empty, 100 point grade item in the course total. It's not pictured in the screen shots but there is a 10 point quiz hidden from students.
Happy to provide more details and screen shots if needed.
UPDATE 11/17: This problem persists in 3.0. Here is a video of the issue. On the left is the student's view of the grade; on the right is the teacher. Sorry there's no sound. http://screencast.com/t/SAFFffKZeIr6
