      I like to share an idea we are prototyping with our teachers...
      We grouped our core and 3rd-party installed plugins into several key pedagogical concepts (inspired by Bloom's taxonomy and just teaching in class). it is used by teachers on K11-12 grades.

      How it works...
      Clicking the activity chooser, the teacher is presented with a listbox that includes several teaching concept (student's activities) like "Discussion", "Exploring", "Evaluating"...
      Then, clicking "Discussion" the teacher is presented with all the plugins that were previously tagged as "discussion" related activities.

      It seems to help beginner Moodle teachers with finding their way around the system
