From posts in the moodle.org forums, it seems that the category enrolments settings page admin/settings.php?section=enrolsettingscategory is a source of confusion for many people.
It simply states
'Category enrolment plugin is a legacy solution for enrolments at the course category level via role assignments. It is recommended to use cohort synchronisation instead.'
Then there are no settings on the page!
People ask how cohort sync can be used at category level, but this isn't possible (MDL-36951).
How about if we go for one of the following possible solutions:
- Not have a settings page and to remove the link on the manage enrol plugins page OR
- Change the language string to something like
The category enrolment plugin synchronises any role assignments in the category context for roles with the capability enrol/category:synchronised set to allow.
together with an i icon and 'More help' linking to admin/setting/enrolsettingscategory (as for the 'Moodle Docs for this page' link).
Or perhaps we should provide full details of how to assign roles in the category context there?
