Edited: This was originally reported as "Messaging emails should be sent in batches" which was the reporter's mistake. The real issue was that users receive too many small emails from the new messaging UI and it is perceived as a buggy behaviour. That is how the issue should have been reported, not as a possible solution. The title was fixed.
The new messaging UI in Moodle 3.2 looks and feels like an instant messenger. So it is natural that users start to use it as such and will split the chat into multiple shorter messages, rather than one longer message.
But then, if i have email notifications enabled, I get individual email for every single message. Like "Hey David" in one email, "How are you?" in another and "I wanted to ask something" in the third. Ideally we should aggregate such close messages into one email.
In the dev chat, timhunt agreed and has put it well in:
Nice new inteface online. Batch up the emails a bit!
