Enable " Completion tracking " for a course add several activities to the course page with some completion criteria add access restriction to one of them so that student does not satisfy it (for example date in the future) open the course page as a student make sure completion box is displayed for available activity but not displayed for the one with access restriction as teacher enable guest access to this course log out and access the course as a guest make sure completion boxes are not displayed log in as a user who is not enrolled in this course and open the course page (guest access will allow you) make sure completion boxes are displayed and you can change completion
