      dear support team,

      in moodle "TeX notation filter documentation => Methods and Usage", mathtex is announce as alternativ to mimetex. See also Mathtex and Mimetex Documentation.

      Suggestion: TeX-filter improvement (using mathtex instead of mimetex).

      Problem: tex-filter still call/exec mathtex with a bunch of wrong parameters (seems parameters are only prepared for mimtex in moodle core).

      Workaround: using CGI-Interface (mathtex.cgi) like https://fqdn/cgi-bin/mathtex.cgi?\frac\{2}{2} to get expressions. In Moodle you can use

      <img src="https://fqdn/cgi-bin/mathtex.cgi?\frac{2}{2}" />

      and your get your expression as png (depend on mathtex-configuration).

      Opportunities: Mathtex make users able to use (own) \usepackage-definitions, colors etc. in every question (not dependent to administrators global preamble). Mathtex also processes more tex-expressions than mimetex.
