Expand Recycle Bin
THIS IS AN MUA PROJECT PROPOSAL THAT WILL BE OR HAS BEEN SUBMITTED FOR POSSIBLE MUA FUNDING. ANY EXISTING TRACKER ITEMS THAT THIS MIGHT DUPLICATE SHOULD BE LINKED TO BELOW.
Overview / Goals
The Recycle Bin tool is extremely handy and has reduced our need to access course backups to restore accidentally deleted data.
In order to increase the coverage of the accidental deletion safety net this provides, we would like to see content deleted within activities go to the recycle bin with the same capability to easily be restored back to where they were in a click by teachers themselves (and admins if they have to).
We should focus on implementing this for activities where this occurs frequently or where the data is particularly critical (e.g. assessment data). For this MUA proposal, we would propose that deleted book chapters, forum posts/threads and questionnaire responses are implemented in the recycle bin.
This would increase Data Recovery capabilities of Moodle without the reduce need to resort to do weekly course backups and the implication in storage costs. Or the painful process of going to a server backup, extracting the data and entering it back manually through the web interface or mucking about in the database.
