      Description

When marking/annotating uploaded PDF files on-screen, the resolution of the rendered image shown in the browser is rather poor. Text looks jagged, is very tiresome to read (especially when you have hundreds of pages of it...), and details in diagrams or graphs get lost.

The alternative workflow is to download each file, annotate in, e.g., Acrobat, and re-upload as feedback. This is clumsy, time-consuming, and reliant on locally installed programs.

The rendering presented in the browser is generated by converting the PDF to a PNG using ghostscript. The resolution is currently hard-coded to 100 dpi.

So my request is this: Could the resolution be increased to, say, 300; or, preferably, could the conversion settings (i.e., some or all of the ghostscript arguments) be exposed on a settings page, so people can tweak them?

Files submitted in other formats (e.g., Word) would also benefit from this as they are first converted to a PDF, which is then rendered by ghostscript.
