THIS IS AN MUA PROJECT PROPOSAL THAT WILL BE OR HAS BEEN SUBMITTED FOR POSSIBLE MUA FUNDING. ANY EXISTING TRACKER ITEMS THAT THIS MIGHT DUPLICATE SHOULD BE LINKED TO BELOW.
Overview
After 3.9 is released in May 2020, there will be no new feature release until Moodle 4.0 in November 2021. HQ has said they will continue to support MUA projects through the release of supported plugins, with the intent that those plugins will become core features in the Moodle 4.x releases. However they have cautioned that their resources will be focussed on the work planned for the 4.0 release, and that any proposals too far removed from the roadmap may be rejected.
To that end, this proposal is to provide funding for project work, closely related to the roadmap, and help push the roadmap along. The proposal will ask that the results of the MUA funding be released in the normal six month cycles as ‘feature’ releases within the 3.9.x release.
The roadmap shows new feature work being performed within Moodle Workplace, while Moodle LMS will be considered in maintenance until the Moodle 4.0 release. The current version of Moodle Workplace already has significant UX and improvements over Moodle LMS. The suggestion is to schedule migrating existing Moodle Workplace UI/UX features into Moodle LMS. The proposal does not touch on new functional features of Moodle Workplace (e.g. report builder, certificates), but only UI/UX enhancements. Some of these features include:
- Enhanced profile / mini-dashboard pop out.
- Pop out launcher to useful functions.
- Main menu drawer compressed view.
- List course format with left side activity progress and section progress indicators.
The intent is to work with HQ each cycle to select the UI features to move. The budget can be what our funding supports.
If chosen, the intent is to renew this proposal each cycle until after 4.0, to bring in any non-migrated UI/UX features.
