      Description

Similar bug raised here, for 3.5: https://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDL-63731

We have recently upgraded to 3.8.2 from 3.6.

We have created a number of "view all" roles for different types of users within our organisation who require the ability to access any course (a specific case is we have a team responsible for monitoring copyrighted material and ensuring it is not being made available outside of its permitted use), however since upgrading to 3.8.2 and utilising global search (configured as "Simple search" with "Search within all courses the user can access") the users with this access to large quantities of courses are unable to return any search results as the script maximum execution time is exceeded and the script is terminated.

When logged in as an administrator global search returns expected results - presumably precisely as the abovementioned MDL-63731 bug functions where the admin role does not have any context checks performed against it.
