Log into a site as 'Admin'.

Visit 'Dashboard' > 'Site administration' > 'Courses' > 'Course custom fields'

Add a new category.

Add a new 'Short text' field.

Enter in 'Name' and 'Shortname'.

Set 'Form input size' to '10'.

Set 'Maximum number of characters' to '50'.

Save changes.

Re-edit the form and confirm those values are shown.
