The afterlink is used in Moodle to display a link after the activity name.
It is used in core for the forum activity to display the number of unread messages.
In issue 'MDL-71691' this 'number of unread messages' link is changed to normal text and rendered as a badge.
This means that any other community plugin that tries to render a link will end up showing a badge with a link inside, which will look weird and might not be accessible.
This issue is to try to see if we should approach this in a different way. Option are
- deprecate the 'afterlink' feature. This depends on if community plugins use this feature
- create a new feature like 'aftertext' and update the design to still have an afterlink
