mimetex stopped working with older glibc versions

      The TeX-filter on our Moodle installation stopped working after updating to Moodle 3.11.
      It appears that after MDL-70769, the mimetex.linux binary doesn't work on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.

      The current version of mimetex.linux in Moodle version 3.11 and above is compiled against glibc 2.29.
      Current LTS releases like Debian 10, Ubuntu 18.04 and CentOS/RHEL 8 ship with older versions of glibc (2.27 and 2.28).

      Would it be possible to compile mimetex.linux against an older version of glibc for wider OS support?
