The changes made on MDL-75908 caused a consistent behat failure on "Persistent Overdue in course view" scenario, see MDL-77709.
Geshoski and ilyatregubov reported other issues on drop down menus where the tick is not working and once the page is reloaded, the active item is shown as selected, but when the dropdown menu is opened the item is not shown as active, see their comments.
Given this is causing some headaches, the iTeam discussed about and decided to revert the original patch introduced on the issue above.
