Checkbox help text can be missed by screen reader users

XMLWordPrintable

    • MOODLE_401_STABLE

The help text for each checkbox is positioned after the checkbox label and it is not read until after the user label making the flow a bit counterintuitive.

Ideally, the help text should be read before the user is prompted to make a decision on the checkbox do that the flow is maintained.

This may also be confusing where multiple checkboxes are listed each one having an help text (see Feedback Type section in the Assignment module edit form as an example).

Steps to reproduce (using a screen reader):

      • log in as a teacher
      • go to a course and enable editing
      • add an Assignment activity
      • go to the "Feedback types" section and note how the help text is not read before the label therefore it's necessary to go back one step to check/uncheck the checkbox
