MOODLE_401_STABLE, MOODLE_402_STABLE
Hey there!
We have noticed an unusual (and quite often spam-like) behavior of Moodle's way of sending e-mails. Mainly, two issues are in mind:
- Moodle seems to ignore if it has already created a connection to SMTP server, and creates a new one for each e-mail (as discussed here: https://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDL-68138)
- Moodle also seems to not care about how many e-mails it is sending at what rate. Big instances can send hundereds of e-mails per seconds and this can be (and often really is) considered as spam (and these e-mails are just thrown away by the mailserver).
I would like to ask if there has been any thought to revisit the code regarding e-mail sending to be better suited for bigger Moodle instances. Many teachers complained that our students are not receiving e-mails (regarding e.g. Forum posts).
If such a basic functionality like receiving e-mails from a system is not reliable, I would consider this as a major flaw in design, and would rush to fix this ASAP.
