When reusing / restoring a course in Moodle the course format will only be transferred when using the "Overwrite configuration" option (see attached screenshot).

Assuming the course format is an integral part of the courses design it might make more sense to transfer the format settings regardless of how "Overwrite configuration" is set or make it a separate option.

As a workaround we reconfigured the standard settings for handling a course import for "Delete the contents of this course and then restore" to automatically overwrite configuration, excluding everything else that can be excluded (e.g. name, course short name, course dates).
