In MDL-79131, a new notification is introduced to notify site admins when an ad-hoc or scheduled task has failed too many times. We would like to expand this functionality, so that in addition to admins receiving the notification, it can be figured to also send to certain other users, depending on the situation.
The full requirements on this are not yet concrete, and ares likely to be driven by notification features introduced in the notifications epic, but may be something along the lines of admins being able to enable an additional notification to relevant roles, such as teachers if something directly affects courses. An example scenario could be:
- The forum notifications task is continually failing.
- Admins receive an email alerting them that x task has failed y times (this is the part implemented by
MDL-79131). - (If enabled) teachers receive a notification alerting them that forum notifications are not currently operational, so they need to be aware and should not rely on those for time sensitive announcements.
