Moodle is an LMS, which includes calendaring.

Right now those features include CRUD for events, import of external calendars, and export to ical.

There are several categories of calendar events:

      • user
      • course category
      • course
      • activity
      • course group
      • site

Some of these make perfect sense, others mean that Moodle ends up trying to be a complete calendar solution for the masses.

In reality Moodle is not in the business of making calendar solutions (which are truly hard, much like text editors), it is in the business of making kick-ass learning software. One feature of that is the ability to create calendar events, but most of these should be from activities.

I propose that we remove a few features and prioritise some others:

      1. remove the user category entirely. If you want to create personal calendar events, then use your Google/Microsoft/Phone calendar. No-one in their right mind needs this
      2. remove the ability to import ics feeds
      3. improve the UI around ical export to encourage people to use their existing calendar solutions
