Install a custom field like  https://github.com/srobotta/moodle-datafield_email create a new database Use a preset (journal) Create an email field Remove the email plugin file folder (i.e.rm -rf mod/data/field/email/) Refresh the page You should see one error message "The following fields do not have..." Create a new field (short text) Ensure you see only error messages for the missing field.
