Add $CFG->maxgradesperpage = 70000; to config.php . Create a course with a large number of students and graded activities. The Test Course Generator with Size of course = "L" will create 10000 students and 500 assignments – sufficient for this test. From the course page navigate to the Grades tab. The gradebook page should load reasonably fast without crashing. The maximum number of students displayed per page should be lower than the total number of students and if multiplied by the number of grade items it should be below 70,000. For example, if there are 500 grade items (if you created an L-sized course with Test Course Generator) then the maximum number in the Show drop-down should be 140 (since 140×500 = 70000).
