Initial situation:
In the support area, we get calls nearly every day about where individual functions are “hidden” in the system. In 1st place is the group administration in the participant overview.

Consensus of the user survey:
Selection boxes are sometimes not recognizable as selection boxes and the elements are not designed consistently.

Analysis of course elements:
(Examples of different representations of selection boxes and separators are shown below)

• Participant overview in the course (001-participants.png)
  • Has no separator between selection box and button
  • There is no separator below the selection box
• Grades (002-grade-report.png)
  • has separators in the vertical and horizontal (marked red)
• Reports (003-reports.png)
  • has a separator in the horizontal (marked red)
• Question bank (004-question-bank.png)
  • again has no horizontal separation (e.g. reports)
  • The layout of the selection box is different from the previous ones (marked yellow)
• Task (Override - 005-assign-override.png)
  • Heading and selection box are in a different order than e.g. in the collection of questions (highlighted in yellow)
• Database
  • Fields (006-data-field.png) has e.g. a “back to course”; templates (006-data-template.png) do not have this and are in the same sub-navigation level
  • The “Actions” selection box has a different layout than the ones shown up to here
• Forum
  • subscription and evaluation have a “back to course” button, the reports do not; they are in the same sub-navigation level
• Forum / Reports (007-forum-reports.png)
  • the layout of the reports does not seem to be iO (line break)
  • A description in front of the selection box is new at this point

Solution to the situation:

• Standardization of the header areas of individual (sub-)functions of courses and activities (including the “back to course” button)
• Visual customization of the selection boxes so that they more likely suggest that they are selection boxes and have a function
