Here is a problem, however: The Participants block allows you to send messages to students. The Participants block DOES have the HTML editor. However, when the message comes into the Messages tool after having been sent with HTML features from Participants, the code is not interpreted properly and the display is far from ideal. Our college also would really love the HTML editor back in the Messages block. We did do attachments using the link feature, but that won't work as well with 2.0 anyway due to the new structure of the file system. However, being able to format text (putting instructions in numbered lists or highlighting key points) is very nice to have. We came to Moodle from a WebCT and then Angel path, and our instructors' #1 complaint with Moodle is the lack of a "course mail" tool. Our college philosophy has always been to keep all interaction within the course (important to us from an HLC standpoint), so using our college email which is separate from the course or using Quickmail which pushes out to an external email system are neither one ideal. We were thrilled with some of the improvements in Moodle 2 messaging, such as seeing the ability to filter contacts by course (yea!!!), but disappointed at the loss of the HTML editor. A true course-based email system would be a dream.
