Formulae not displaying correctly with TeX filter

      Description

Since the demo site was upgraded to 2.0, formulae using the TeX filter e.g. http://demo.moodle.net/mod/page/view.php?id=924 no longer display correctly.

Thanks to Christina Russu for reporting this issue.

Assuming this issue affects all Moodle sites and not just the demo site. Sorry I've not had chance to check.

Assigning to Eloy as filters component lead in the first instance, as there doesn't seem to be a regular maths filters maintainer.

I've copied/pasted the resource in my test site and TeX filter seems to be doing its work ok here (see attachment).

So something needs to be fixed in demo/demomaster server. Surely enabling debugging and trying this:

        http://demomaster.moodle.net/filter/tex/texdebug.php

should give us some idea or the causes of the expressions not being rendered there.

I bet some execution permissions and/or incomplete TeX stack could be the problems...

I'm moving this to MDLSITE. Thanks for the report, ciao

        Hi Eloy, Jordan, Helen,...

Looks like the usual problem the binaries that tex filter needs are not found or readable from the paths that Site administration > Plugins > Filters > TeX Notation gives - and not even mimetex binary is executable.

Another thing is seen there as well - sub and super tags are not shown correct caused by yui reset css bug - see MDL-25565 for an easy fix.

Attached a screenshot from crossed demo site Tex filter paths (and convert output format could be PNG instead of GIF)
