I did a quick proof of concept for this using the rss feeds and came to a few conclusions:

          • We can't do this using RSS because it doesn't have all the metadata in the format we need.
            • To be like Barabars mockups we want to have images associated with items - user profile image
            • We can't even get the author name + posted date like the mockup
            • For forum posts (useful posts + announcements) I suppose the format will be title + avatar + author + date
          • I think that 4 columns is going to be too much
          • If we are to keep the 'Moodle buzz' feed, then the metadata/images on that are going to need thinking about

Also, it had not really struck me before, but if you are viewing the front page in french, you are going to get 3 columns of english, but one of french?

Mixed french/english is OK. It's better than now and unless we start trsnslating the main news into every language there's no other option really.

4 feeds across hmm, can't they be much smaller?

Ah, no, maybe you are right.

I set my screen resolution to 1024x768 and removed the left/right blocks and its not as bad as I perceived.

I also think that 4 columns is maybe too much.

Looking at http://clone.moodle.org/ and thinking that we only need to list the latest two or three announcements, perhaps we can put events underneath announcements and then have only 3 columns.

Anyway, as Dan mentioned to me in a chat, the layout can be modified later and it will be easier to see with content in.
