      Description

This condition existed for a couple weeks (MDLSITE-1834) and then was fixed. Is now recurring though I got my 10/16 digest on 10/20. Nothing since.

Additional info, was suggested I try just headers rather than entire messages in the digest. This did not change the situation.

Had a look in the logs and it seems to be failing mid-cron again at some points

I got headers last night so switching to the useful full posts to see if I can get those.

            Hi Matt,

Can you look into this (I am too busy with integration until 2.4 release).

It looks like the moodle cronjob is terminating early from the logs. Could be running out of memory, that was the theory last time.

Cron was terminating early due to what looks like lack of memory. The script has been increased in allowance and appears to have at least parsed over email properly. Could somebody confirm they got today's digest?

Set Cron to use more memory for the email handling (256MB -> 1024MB). This appears sufficient although other parts of the cron seemed to time out.

Helen, if you could keep and eye on the digests and make sure they're going through for the new few days? Please close the issue if so or otherwise let me know and I'll dig a little deeper.

Got a digest today but wondering if that's only because traffic over the weekend is lighter.

Traffic has little to do with it, it's more the amount of memory PHP takes up generating the lists of stuff. I find it hard to believe it's more than 1GB though. Further investigation has shown memory is generally fine for this. Dan, can I ask the devs to take a look because this has to be a code issue. I understand if you're busy with integration for 2.4, feel free to pass this on to someone else if need be, I'll give full access to the required logs and servers as needed.

Traffic is totally related to it, Matt. More traffic on forums == more posts == more data to email == more ram taken up in cron.

I set my moodle.org profile email digest type to 'complete' in order to test this issue and have just received one digest mail today containing one forum post from Friday 2 Nov.

I did not get a digest today so being now into the week I'd guess its still a memory issue because of the increased volume.

Bit more info, eliminated the Quiz forum (lots of volume) from my digest and got one for Friday (busy day).

Hmm, that is curious Robert. We upgraded to 2.4 today on moodle.org. Though I don't believe there should be changes relating to forum specifically.

Got another one today. Haven't had two in a row for quite a while. Maybe 2.4 mysteriously fixed it. Thanks.
