      Description

Do we show english content or just recent localised posts?

I would vote for localised content as I think it might help encourage more traffic so that we never have this problem.

I agree that we should show recent activity when there are not enough useful posts.

Just wondering how to describe the list of posts when they are not 'rated useful'.

Also, even if posts are rated as useful, the current code will 'cut off' old posts. Not sure if its good or bad.

Recent activity is fine. I wouldn't worry about it being mis-named as it will hopefully be temporary. And Helen could always go in a rate a few that look good.

I don't get what you mean about cutting off posts.

Cut off = only show recent posts, so if a language doesn't have any new content no content is displayed.

David, the current code for this is in the branch wip-danp-useful-rework (its pretty rough and ready, needs a rebase/cleanup, sorry)

Just noting that I have filled in languages and the useful scale for each course in http://clone.moodle.org/local/moodleorg/admin/coursemapping.php

However I'm wondering whether the useful scale should only be selected for courses for which it is confirmed that the scale is in use?

Can we not have a cut off at all, but rather just list say the last 3 of 4 posts, no matter how old they are?

agreed, working on 'no matter how old they are'. tired of always having to update data to have stuff show.

i've pushed up changes now, refactored so that we have more useful posts from parent or en lang when current lang has not enough. en is top lang (i.e.: not searching for other lang posts when its en)

I just viewed the site with the lang nl selected and found no posts at all listed. I thought recent posts were supposed to be shown if there are not enough rated posts?

Also es_mx shows posts in English when it should show posts in Spanish.

Languages with a course for which the useful scale has not yet been enabled e.g. pl give an error message 'No forums found for pl with scale 125'. I guess I'll have to go through and fix these instances one-by-one on the live site?

ah Helen, i ended up looking at other courses for useful posts within the time frame. (as described in last comment)
i guess its better to show recent activity in english? if there are ultimately no useful posts in english, i could make it look for older posts.

there are 2 ways - (1)stick to the lang or (2)stick to recent useful posts. let me know if you think (1) is better as i've gone with (2) for other languages (besides en).
