As student, on prototype 3.2 > MM developer testing course > Assignments > Online text assignment.

Add/Edit the submission and write some text with extended chars such as â, è, ï and check the counts are successfully counted.

You can also try with other languages with unicode chars like arabic, cyrillic... However it can't be rejected because of the difference counting words.

An assignment activity with text submission and word limit is displaying a different amount of words in the Moodle Mobile App as in Moodle Web.

See Print-Screens below. Words with Umlauts are counted twice in the Moodle Mobile App.
