On Pixel (Android 12) just before showing the normal splash a different short screen is being shown:

It seems something new on Android 12:

Starting in Android 12, the SplashScreen API enables a new app launch animation for all apps when running on a device with Android 12 or higher. This includes an into-app motion at launch, a splash screen showing your app icon, and a transition to your app itself.

IMHO it would be better to have this new app launch animation with white background so it is more coherent with everything else. (If at some point dark mode splash is supported, if on dark mode it would be ok to show it on dark background)
